Project 3: Light

Narrative:

The goal of this project was to be able to control how light enters a building to emphasize the meaning of the space. It was important to avoid direct sunlight onto occupants of the building who are located in the chapels at all times of the day. This meant that we had to develop light mechanisms that would control and wash the light onto a surface. The end product is a non-denominational church with three chapels that each capture light from different times of the day based on the suns path.

Site:

The front façade of the building is placed on a formal space. The façade is also aligned with an offset of the formal space based on the existing patterns. The building is also placed away from other buildings to allow for full sunlight all day.
